The Maad Code works introduce the Maadphabet, a script inspired by the West African Maad fruit seeds grown by my mother in Florida. A Wolof proverb, etched into glass in Wolof, French, and English, reimagines language beyond colonial scripts. Viewers are invited to create their own narratives through titles like “The Great Escape.” The work’s backing features seeds, peels, oyster shells, and fragmented faces, reflecting Senegalese markets, trade histories, the Atlantic, and the African diaspora.
